Summoned Zombie in Another World - Chapter 8

Chapter 8 - Crow Ridge, Sunlight, and a Hint of Green

A dark figure with blood-red eyes and a loud cawing sound that seemed somewhat noisy.

These were the scavenging animals, crows.

This mountain ridge where they perched was known to the nearby people as Crow Ridge.

Long ago, Crow Ridge was just an ordinary place, but due to war, it became a site of rivers of blood and corpses scattered everywhere.

With countless bodies left unattended, over time, these bodies transformed into undead creatures.

Some became skeletons, but most turned into ghouls, lingering in this place.

For a long time, ghouls would attack the residents of nearby towns, leading to those towns retreating ten miles away.

After a considerable amount of time, many undead creatures dissipated because their soul fires couldn't replenish, but the ghouls that could sustain themselves continued to thrive, establishing their stronghold and dominating the area.

In reality, if left unchecked, these low-level undead creatures would eventually vanish in the river of time.

However, many people came here to meet their demise, becoming food for the ghouls. As a result, the number of undead creatures in Crow Ridge did not decrease—it even attracted scavengers like crows.

The reason is simple: the whole world is focused on seeking profit, and everyone is bustling about for their own interests.

The pursuit of profit is the greatest motivation and also the reason for death.

Walking on the somewhat muddy, damp, and soft black soil, Lin Yan raised his head and looked up at the sky. The mist was heavy, so the sun he saw was hazy and blurred.

Lin Yan slowly extended his hand, palm facing the sky, and his fingers slowly curled.

It seemed as if he wanted to grasp something, to seize the sunlight, or perhaps to seize the sun?

No, it was neither. What he wanted to seize was...

Life!!!

Although the sunlight wasn't strong, accepting its baptism, Lin Yan felt a warm sensation throughout his body.

Threads of warm airflow flowed within him, from the fine roots at his extremities to the main root at his heart, and then entered the space of his soul.

This warm feeling fascinated Lin Yan.

Yes, warmth. He once again felt the sensation of warmth.

He regained his sense of touch, but this touch was obtained because the root system replaced his blood vessels, neural networks, and other structures.

So this sense of touch felt a bit strange, slightly different from when he was human.

He still had hearing, vision, smell, and taste, and they were even more acute compared to when he was a zombie.

The only thing missing was the sense of pain.

Because the seed of the Tree of Life took root in his body, he obtained a new life and came back to life once again.

But Lin Yan felt that he couldn't be considered a living person.

Although his heart beat slowly, there was no blood in his body, and he didn't need to breathe.

There were significant changes in his eating habits as well. After gaining magic power, Lin Yan's craving for flesh and blood had greatly diminished.

With the growth of roots in his body, Lin Yan also lost interest in fresh meat.

Now, it seemed that all he needed was to bask in the sun to meet his daily needs.

"Pho...to...syn...the...sis... cough..."

Lin Yan struggled to say this 5-syllable word. His vocal cords had regained functionality, but after a long period of disuse, they were a bit stiff and required some rehabilitation training.

Lin Yan also speculated and made judgments about his own physical condition.

For plants, photosynthesis promotes growth. That's normal, so he needed to bask in the sun more.

A crow flew over and landed on Lin Yan's shoulder. With its red eyes, it looked curiously at Lin Yan, seemingly assessing whether he was a corpse.

Its intuition told it that this was a corpse, but when it landed on his shoulder, it felt that he was a living person. This strange situation left the crow puzzled.

"Caw, caw!"

Lin Yan smiled faintly, waved his hand to shoo away the crow, and then walked away from Crow Ridge.

He had no interest in continuing to accompany the dead and undead. Although he had lost his past memories, he still had a strong longing for the magical world and wanted to explore this world and experience the unique charm of other places.

Lin Yan was very sensitive to the aura of death, so along the way, he could easily avoid ghouls and other undead creatures.

Adding himself into the equation, although he had technically separated himself from being a zombie, he couldn't be fully considered a living person either. In the perception of those ghouls, he was somewhat like a weed.

Some of them didn't notice him at all, didn't sense his presence.

Some had a vague feeling but ignored it.

In this way, Lin Yan confidently walked out of Crow Ridge, that land of the undead.

After walking out, Lin Yan felt a bit lost.

Because he didn't know where to go. He knew there were towns near Crow Ridge, about ten miles or so, not too far.

But the problem was which direction to go. There were east, west, north, south, up, and down.

And even if he went to the town, what would he do? Blend into the crowd and live a normal life? Could he do that with his appearance?

Lin Yan walked to the riverside and, using the clear water as a mirror, saw his current appearance clearly.

His face was a bit pale, indicating a lack of blood color, which was natural since there was no blood in his body.

His features were delicate, and his face was attractive. Although he couldn't be considered a handsome guy who could charm thousands of girls, he had some attractiveness and was presentable.

Overall, apart from being a bit pale, there were no major issues with his appearance.

But his hair, originally thick, remained the same even after becoming a zombie. However, now it had turned from black to green, resembling leaves. Besides the noticeable change in hair color, his irises had also turned green.

It looked lively, but Lin Yan vaguely remembered that green hair seemed to be a bad omen.

However, he couldn't recall the specifics of why it was a bad omen, as if it didn't have much to do with him.

There were no significant differences in his physique either. The corpse spots had disappeared, and the fatal wound on his chest had been repaired due to the roots inside his body.

Now, Lin Yan had no wounds on his body, and his skin had regained some elasticity and vitality.

Generally speaking, from an external perspective, Lin Yan appeared to be no different from an ordinary person. Apart from the strange hair and eye color, as long as no one investigated any abnormalities inside his body, there wouldn't be any issues.

In the memories of the necromancer, there seemed to be many people with even stranger hair and eye colors than him, so this wasn't a big problem.

Therefore, there shouldn't be any major issues in blending into the crowd.
