Summoned Zombie in Another World - Chapter 9
Chapter 9 - River, Scent, and Exploding Bear
Splashing some water on his face to make himself look even cleaner, Lin Yan appeared more harmless.
He intended to take a bath as well, considering it had been a long time since he last washed himself. There used to be a lingering stench on his body.
But now it was gone, replaced by a faint, well, not a fragrance, but rather a mild botanical scent.
Although not fragrant, it smelled quite good to Lin Yan himself.
The odor emanating from Lin Yan's body was actually a strong vitality that radiated from within, but only a weak trace of it diffused outward.
For the undead, this was not a good thing—it was something they abhorred and wanted to destroy. However, for living creatures, it was a good thing.
It was like the ginseng fruit—sniff it, and you can live for 360 years—eat one, and you can live for 47,000 years.
Of course, Lin Yan's scent didn't have the same potent effect as the ginseng fruit. However, if you could eat the main root of Lin Yan's heart and the sprout inside his soul space, then the effect would be no less inferior to eating the ginseng fruit. But there was a condition—you had to be like Lin Yan.
And someone like Lin Yan, who could make the seed of the Tree of Life take root in his body, merge with his soul, and give birth to a sprout, was completely an exceptional case, an unrepeatable miracle.
Therefore, Lin Yan didn't know that he now had a special attraction to living beings.
If it were humans, the feeling wouldn't be particularly strong. They would just find Lin Yan's scent pleasant, natural, and comforting.
Animals with keen senses, however, would want to get closer to Lin Yan, wanting to absorb more of his scent. Although it wouldn't extend their lifespans, it was an instinctive desire to be near and nuzzle.
As for the magical beasts with even stronger perception, intuition, and instinct, they would be more easily attracted to Lin Yan. They would then follow their instinct to want to devour Lin Yan, similar to how monsters wanted to eat Tang Monk's flesh to attain eternal youth.
Whether it was true or not, no one really knew, but everyone said so. It should have some credibility, so why not try eating and see?
After all, for the big shot monsters, they wouldn't be killed just because of this. So why not give it a try?
When Lin Yan wanted to go into the water, a fur-covered reddish-brown bear quietly sneaked up behind him.
When the bear approached within five meters behind Lin Yan, he already sensed something was wrong. Although he might not be considered a zombie at the moment, that's up for debate, but having experienced death once, Lin Yan could perceive the murderous intent and malevolent thoughts, those elusive things.
As he turned around for a quick glance, Lin Yan only saw the reddish-brown fur, a foul-smelling wide mouth, and sharp teeth.
Instinctively, Lin Yan reached out to grab the wide mouth, trying to pry it open, or else his head would be bitten off in one gulp.
For an ordinary person, such an action would undoubtedly be suicidal. Even in a zombie state, where he could unleash a powerful force without feeling pain, a human's strength was ultimately limited and couldn't contend with the bear's bite force.
Lin Yan was in the same situation, but he managed to hold on for a moment, successfully protecting his head.
However, as the wide mouth clamped down, the bones of Lin Yan's forearms snapped with a crisp sound, becoming the bear's meal.
At this moment, Lin Yan finally saw what had attacked him.
An Exploding Bear, a 5th-tier magical beast.
In Lin Yan's mind, there were memories related to it, even the necromancer avoided it.
It wasn't because the Exploding Bear was particularly powerful, but rather because they found it repulsive.
That was because it was an extremely irritable and easily enraged magical beast. Once it entered battle, it would go berserk relentlessly. Even if it got injured, it would continue to pursue and harass you for three days and nights. It was especially troublesome.
For an necromancer, a 5th-tier magical beast was too low-level, lacking any leveling purpose. Killing it didn't bring much benefit, and instead, it would cause unnecessary trouble.
This Exploding Bear was just over two meters tall, still a juvenile, so its strength was far from reaching the level of a normal 5th-tier magical beast. However, for Lin Yan at this moment, it was still a catastrophic threat.
In this instant, Lin Yan's mind was almost blank.
He had never fought to the death before, his combat experience was practically zero. If he were a warrior from a combat-oriented class, he would have a chance to put up a fight.
So when he finally realized that he was being attacked by a bear, he was at a loss.
What should I do, defend or attack?
If I defend, how should I do it? My hand has been eaten, so I should use magic to defend myself.
But I don't know many magic spells. Undead summoning, necromancy, soul capture... Those are the few magic spells I know.
The memories Lin Yan received from the necromancer were incomplete, so even though he had acquired some magical skills, they weren't of much use in this situation.
Some magic spells have a higher requirement for magical power, and Lin Yan didn't have that much magic at the moment. Spells like undead summoning, for example, require some preparation time.
If he delays for even a second or two, Lin Yan would have truly become a meal for the Exploding Bear. It would be pointless.
No, there was one more option.
Corrosion spell!
This is a relatively basic magic spell in the undead lineage. It is typically used to destroy corpses but also has some offensive capabilities.
Dodging the Exploding Bear's attack, Lin Yan quickly cast the spell. A gloomy green liquid swiftly condensed and, under Lin Yan's mental focus, hurled towards the bear's mouth.
Although the Exploding Bear was ferocious, it was not foolish. It wouldn't casually swallow something with such a strange color, smell, and a bit of a pungent odor.
It tilted its head to avoid it but not completely, as Lin Yan could mentally control it.
Thus, the corrosion spell hit the bear's left eye. The moment the liquid made contact with its flesh, a strong reaction occurred.
Hissing sounds and a pungent smoke filled the air. This corrosion spell was concentrated sulfuric acid!
Enraged by the pain, the injured Exploding Bear raised one of its meaty paws.
The paw had four black pads and appeared somewhat cute, except for the terrifying claws and excessive force.
That paw struck Lin Yan's chest, as if he had been hit by a car. Lin Yan was sent flying.
No, not just flying, but exploding.
This was the innate magic of the bear—explosion. Their pads were special; when they struck something, they exploded, hence their name.
With a bang, Lin Yan fell into the river.
By the time the effects of the corrosion spell wore off, Lin Yan had already been swept away by the turbulent current.
