Summoned Zombie in Another World - Chapter 4
Chapter 4 - Magic, Digestion, and Nourishment
Although the necromancer was old and withered, with loose and unelastic skin, eating him was tough and the meat was both tough and sour.
However, this was Lin Yan's first prey after all, and after consuming his flesh and blood, Lin Yan's body gradually accumulated some energy.
With the knowledge of a necromancer, Lin Yan understood that this energy was magic power.
In this world, magic power is the energy that combines one's mental power with elements through meditation, thereby condensing one's own magic power.
For example, if you have a strong affinity for water elements, through meditation, you can condense water attribute magic power. Practicing and casting water magic would be much more efficient and effective.
If you have a low affinity for fire elements, then you would naturally require more magic power for casting spells, and you would also need incantations to ensure the stability of your casting.
As a zombie, Lin Yan undoubtedly had an affinity for death and dark elements. After consuming the necromancer, he also accumulated a foundation of magic power.
What others might take years to become an apprentice mage, Lin Yan achieved in just one meal.
The disparities in the world are just so immense.
Having magic power is a great thing for Lin Yan.
After consuming the necromancer and replenishing his flesh and blood, he could keep up with the consumption, and the trend of his body decaying also halted.
But it was only a temporary halt—to reverse this trend, he would need more and stronger energy.
Like those advanced zombies, they were originally just ordinary zombies. It was only after obtaining a large amount of blood and having abundant nutrition and energy that their decaying bodies could rejuvenate, leading to evolution and mutation.
However, the evolution and mutation of those advanced zombies were not limited to horizontal or vertical development. Some of them even took on bizarre forms, like turning into a spherical shape.
That image was just too terrible and completely contradicted Lin Yan's aesthetic sense. On the other hand, magic power, as a high-quality and stable energy, could bring about evolution for Lin Yan without drastic and sudden mutations.
Mutation is not necessarily a good thing because it occurs in order to adapt to changing environments, requiring making choices within a short period of time. To do so, certain things must be abandoned, and all the strength must be focused in one direction to quickly establish a significant advantage, ensuring a better chance of survival.
However, if the living environment changes again or if one is forced to migrate to a completely new environment, the advantages of mutation can be lost and instead become a disadvantage. Therefore, mutation has its pros and cons and is not entirely positive, being filled with unknowns and instability.
And now, Lin Yan could use magic power to nourish his worn-out and decaying body, gradually making it stronger and achieving evolution.
However, this process was slow because Lin Yan had very little magic power, so he needed to obtain more magic power.
Hence, Lin Yan set his sights on a magic staff.
The necromancer's magic staff, embedded with a high-quality magic crystal, had excellent quality, containing abundant magic power.
For humans, both the magic crystal and the magic core were just material props, similar to the difference between a regular battery and a rechargeable battery.
Whether it was a regular battery or a rechargeable battery, people could utilize the energy within them to convert into kinetic energy or light energy, but they couldn't directly absorb it as their own energy.
So, mages were unable to absorb the energy within a magic crystal or magic core, but they could use the magic within them to cast spells and amplify the effects of magic.
However, magical creatures could. They could swallow the magic crystal or magic core and slowly digest it, gaining magic power.
So, can I do the same?
That's what Lin Yan thought. He wasn't a mage, and he wasn't even human, so why not try something unconventional.
Lin Yan had confidence in his zombie's biting ability and digestive capabilities, so he decided to take a bite.
On his first attempt, Lin Yan was very careful, taking only a small bite, about the size of a soybean.
Hmm, the zombie's biting ability and digestive capabilities are indeed powerful.
Just as expected, shortly after consuming it, a reaction occurred.
Lin Yan's magic power, which was only a shallow layer before, started to accumulate like a water reservoir, slowly building up bit by bit.
With the magic crystal the size of a soybean, it took Lin Yan half an hour to digest it and convert it into his own magic power.
At this point, his magic power had doubled.
After finishing the digestion, Lin Yan quickly took another bite.
This bite was larger, so it took a full three hours to digest, and surprisingly, his stomach felt full.
By this time, Lin Yan's magic power had multiplied several times, from a thin layer to the size of a basin.
Lin Yan didn't stop there—he directly gulped down the remaining magic crystals and began to meditate.
The meditation practice of a magician is to enhance their mental power and accumulate magic power.
Unless you have an innate talent with mental power hundreds of times stronger than others, able to quickly accumulate magic power, this is an unavoidable stage. It's like accumulating work experience, with no shortcuts.
However, Lin Yan's meditation was not for accumulating magic power, as he could slowly enhance his magic power by digesting the magic crystals.
He meditated to repair his own body with this magic power.
Lin Yan didn't know how he died and turned into a zombie, but when he became a zombie, his body had three long wounds that extended from the collarbone to the abdomen.
The wounds were long and deep, clearly revealing his ribs. That should have been his fatal injury.
As a zombie, he was in a constant state of hunger and had no energy supply. As a result, Lin Yan's body began to decay, and the fatal wound started to rot, even breeding some maggots.
Small yellowish-white insects wriggled and crawled around the wound, sometimes secreting a sticky substance.
He didn't know what kind of insects these maggots were, but their vitality was so strong that they could even breed in a zombie's body.
Even without the cannibalism among zombies, his body would gradually decay and be decomposed by these small insects until it became a skeleton.
Now, Lin Yan used his dark attribute magic power to kill these maggots and nourish his body with magic power.
It was somewhat like adding a preservative to prevent further decay of his body. As long as he nourished it to a certain extent, his body would regain its "vitality".
