Summoned Zombie in Another World - Chapter 6
Chapter 6 - Life, Death, and the Heart
Even dragons couldn't consume it, let alone humans. Although humans possessed strong imagination and creativity.
So it seemed that the seed of the Tree of Life was left with only one purpose, which was planting. However, even for the Elves, just taking care of their own seed and allowing it to evolve to the Tree of Life then into an Ancient Tree of Life, or even a higher level, required a significant amount of time and effort.
It could be done, but it wasn't necessary.
Allocating more resources to plant a second Tree of Life didn't seem to bring many benefits to the Elven race.
Therefore, the seed of the Tree of Life was preserved like this. After all, its shelf life was quite long.
Although a seed only appeared every ten thousand years, the Elves had quite a few of them, at least in double digits.
It couldn't be helped. This was the advantage of the long-lived species, and the Elves were an ancient race.
With a large quantity but limited usefulness, even the Elves themselves didn't place much importance on the seeds. They didn't mind losing a few.
Those who understood the seed of the Tree of Life knew that it didn't serve much purpose, and even if obtained, it was of no use.
However, just the by the words "Seed of the Tree of Life" could deceive those who were ignorant and sell it at a high price.
Of course, this didn't rule out the fact that some people had a special inclination for collecting rare and unusual items to add to their collections.
Lin Yan was unaware of the detailed process of obtaining the Tree of Life and the purpose behind acquiring the seed.
But he knew that after obtaining the seed, the necromancer had to hide in this place for a while to lay low.
So, the significance of this seed became thought-provoking.
Lin Yan took out the seed of the Tree of Life and carefully examined it.
During the time it was in the spatial ring, the sensation wasn't profound, but after taking it out, the abundant, powerful, and vibrant life force within the seed of the Tree of Life came rushing forth, leaving a clear and profound feeling.
Gurgle!
Lin Yan struggled to swallow, if only he still had saliva.
He desired to consume it, a strong craving.
Perhaps this longing arose from the fact that he had already died and become a zombie, making him even more eager for life force.
Undead creatures have a strong hostility towards the living because they are the deceased. They instinctively despise living beings and want to turn them into beings like themselves.
Their aversion and hatred towards the living stem from their yearning to be alive, to continue living under the sunlight.
It is because of their intense desire for something they know they cannot have, that it transforms into hatred.
The extreme craving overwhelmed Lin Yan's rationality, to the point where his eyes turned bloodshot and his pale face became grotesque and terrifying.
He let out a beast-like growl and devoured the seed of the Tree of Life in one gulp.
The seed of the Tree of Life was about the size of half a fist, and Lin Yan struggled for a while before finally swallowing it.
He managed to swallow it, but not completely.
It got stuck, as if lodged in his trachea and lungs. Fortunately, Lin Yan didn't need to breathe, so even though it was stuck, it didn't pose any problem. It was just uncomfortable.
"Cough, cough, cough!"
Lin Yan, who had swallowed the seed of the Tree of Life, gradually regained his senses. He wasn't sure why he suddenly went insane and swallowed the seed.
But that wasn't important now. What mattered was either completely swallowing it or spitting the seed.
Although it was stuck in the trachea and lungs, it didn't affect him in the slightest, as he didn't need to breathe. It being stuck wouldn't have much impact on him.
He wouldn't experience pain, but he felt a bit uncomfortable. That's why he felt a little uneasy.
So, Lin Yan tried to swallow, but without saliva, the lack of power from the throat contractions made it ineffective.
He tried to induce vomiting by pressing his fingers against his throat to trigger a physiological response to expel it.
However, Lin Yan overlooked one thing. He was currently a zombie and didn't have any physiological responses.
So, this method also failed. The two relatively gentle methods didn't work, so he had to resort to a more forceful approach.
He clenched his fists and fiercely hammered his chest.
One strike, two strikes, three strikes... It had some effect—it felt like it loosened, but the force was not enough. So, he increased the intensity.
The pounding on his chest made loud thumping sounds, as if someone might mistake it for drumming.
Lin Yan was determined to deal with this seed.
He didn't know how many times he had hammered his chest, but it had been at least ten minutes. The seed was still stuck until there was a crisp cracking sound.
His ribs broke. Lin Yan forcefully snapped them himself, but he didn't feel any pain. So when he heard the sound, he reacted with a slight delay and continued hammering a few more times.
As a result, the second and third ribs also broke.
Then the uncomfortable feeling of being stuck disappeared, and the seed fell out. As for where it fell, Lin Yan couldn't say for sure.
It should have fallen into the stomach, he thought. He touched his belly but didn't feel much.
After thinking about it, Lin Yan didn't dwell on this matter. He didn't take it too seriously.
When we were kids and ate fruit, adults would occasionally scare us by saying not to swallow its seed, otherwise, it would sprout inside our stomachs.
When we were young, we believed it and even felt worried and scared.
But as we grew up, we knew it was impossible because our stomach acid was sufficient to digest a seed. Even if it wasn't digested, it would be expelled without any worry.
Lin Yan had great confidence in his zombie digestion abilities.
It was just a seed. Was it more difficult to digest than a magic crystal?
At this moment, Lin Yan didn't know that the seed of the Tree of Life was something even a dragon couldn't digest.
Without paying too much attention to it, Lin Yan treated it as not a big deal and continued to swallow magic crystals and magic cores, digesting and absorbing the magic to nourish his body, proceeding calmly and methodically.
At this moment, Lin Yan had no idea that the seed of the Tree of Life, which had been stuck in his trachea, had fallen into his heart under his pounding, ending up in the atrium.
While Lin Yan nurtured his body with magic, the seed of the Tree of Life also received nourishment.
Moreover, the death aura of the undead was slowly stimulating the seed of the Tree of Life.
Yes, stimulation!
Life and death, although not as incompatible as fire and water, were always opposing forces.
The collision of these two opposing forces had a great possibility of igniting miraculous sparks.
And at this moment, Lin Yan's undead body was igniting such sparks.
