Lizard Lord - Chapter 2 (Part 1)

Chapter 2 - Big Lizard (Part 1)

He held his breath and focused on observing and calculating near the hunters. Fortunately, his lizard-like body was small enough not to arouse anyone's suspicion.

These hunters seemed to be wary of predators that might be attracted by the scent of blood. They did not choose to set up camp on the spot but followed the stream for some distance before stopping in a slightly more open area.

Although they called it a camp, the setup of these hunters was quite simple.

They gathered firewood, lit it with pre-prepared fire starters, and laid a few animal skins on the nearby ground. That was considered the basic completion.

Tang Zhao couldn't help but covet the large freshly roasted deer leg placed on the fire, but he didn't forget his main objective.

It seemed that the hunters didn't consider the blood core to be a particularly valuable treasure. The middle-aged man simply placed the animal skin pouch together with other skins without guarding it closely.

This made Tang Zhao secretly delighted. It seemed that there was a good chance of stealing the blood core.

However, at that moment, he heard the sound of rustling in the bushes again, making Tang Zhao alert as he turned his head.

A pair of deep green eyes flashed in the bushes and disappeared in the blink of an eye.

Tang Zhao, who had been somewhat relaxed, immediately became alert again, staring nervously at the now calm bushes.

He was familiar with this forest and knew that the wolves here had a wicked nature. Occasionally, they would exhibit behavior completely different from their animal identity.

【Let's speed up. If we delay any longer, it might be too late.】

Patiently hiding among the treetops, Tang Zhao waited until nightfall. He watched as two of the hunters fell asleep, leaving only one on night watch, who also seemed drowsy.

After observing the surroundings one last time and not hearing any unusual sounds or detecting any signs of wild animals nearby, Tang Zhao quietly climbed down from the tree.

With his small size and quiet movements, Tang Zhao didn't attract anyone's attention. He moved back and forth in the shadows beyond the reach of the firelight and quickly reached the pile of animal skins.

Pausing for a moment, Tang Zhao grabbed the animal skin pouch with his mouth and dragged it into the stack of skins.

In the darkness, Tang Zhao struggled to open the mouth of the pouch with his mouth and claws. He eagerly stuck his head inside the bag, and his forked tongue, like a snake, began to explore the surroundings.

After licking several cold, tooth-like objects, Tang Zhao finally tasted something warm and irregularly shaped.

His sharp teeth gently bit into the object, but before Tang Zhao could think about how to swallow it, it naturally turned into a warm flow and flowed into his throat, entering his stomach.

{Evolution criteria: 200 grams of low-grade meat (200 grams), one inferior blood core (1 piece).}

Finally, he breathed a sigh of relief. Just as he was about to leave quickly, he suddenly heard the sound of clothes being torn and the sound of claws and teeth tearing into flesh not far away.

Then came a series of heart-wrenching screams.

The angry roars of the remaining two hunters quickly turned into frightened cries.

Tang Zhao's heart tightened— the worst-case scenario had happened. These hunters had now become prey for the wolf pack.

The piercing howls and heavy panting of the wolf pack reached Tang Zhao's ears, making him realize that he was surrounded.

Escaping now posed a high risk. He couldn't dig a hole, and climbing a tree would take some time. This clearing was specifically chosen for their camp, and the nearest trees were five to six meters away.

He wasn't sure how many wolves were surrounding him, but judging from their panting, there were definitely quite a few.

If Tang Zhao tried to escape now, there was a chance that a wolf might grab him as a plaything.

After weighing the pros and cons, he chose to endure, hoping that the wolves would quickly leave after feeding.

Just as he had expected, the wolves seemed uninterested in the stripped skins.

Occasionally, he could hear the sound of clothes and limbs being torn, but the small pile of leather where Tang Zhao hid remained undisturbed.

Anxiously waiting for what seemed like an eternity, the sounds of the wolves devouring gradually subsided, but they still didn't leave.

Then, Tang Zhao heard a voice from above him.

It wasn't the low growl of the wolves but a language consisting of multiple syllables, filled with satisfaction and pleasure.

"Three people, barely enough to eat. Take away anything useful."

Before Tang Zhao could fully comprehend what was happening, he felt the pile of leather he was hiding in being moved and dragged.

He quickly embedded his claws into the fur beneath him, gripping as tightly as possible to avoid being thrown out.

【No wonder their behavior is different from ordinary beasts. If they have a language, it means they have intelligence. That means there must be some special individuals among this wolf pack.】

Time was running out, and he couldn't afford to think too much. He immediately began to consider how to escape.

There were footsteps in both directions, but the chances of him sneaking out during the relocation were low.

In other words, he might have to follow this wolf pack to their settlement and then figure out how to escape.

Since there were intelligent individuals among the wolves, he should stick with the leather and be placed in a designated snow storage area when no one was watching.

As long as there was no constant supervision, it shouldn't be too difficult to run away when the time came. After all, he was just an inconspicuous little creature.

After realizing this, Tang Zhao felt somewhat relieved and finally had the mental capacity to focus on the deep green mark on his left claw.

{Searching for a suitable location to evolve, takes one hour (two random enhancements).}

Although he had taken some risks, he had finally met the basic requirements of the system and could find time for his next evolution.

This time it took three times longer than before, but the randomly acquired strengthening abilities increased from one to two. Tang Zhao was eagerly anticipating this.

After being dragged along with the leather for a while, Tang Zhao heard the sound of rustling leaves, and the surrounding panting became much quieter, with a slight echo.

After waiting for another two minutes, Tang Zhao, along with the leather, was lifted and seemed to be placed on a platform.

Voices could be heard in the distance, and the footsteps gradually faded away until they disappeared completely.

Tang Zhao cautiously poked his head out, only to see darkness.

With the night vision ability bestowed by the mark, he could easily see the surroundings by the faint light of a candle in the distance.

It seemed to be a storage room with many storage cabinets and crates, and he himself was on a row of shelves.

There was also a worn-out wooden table near the door, with a scroll made of sheepskin on top.

Quickly climbing down from the shelves, Tang Zhao searched for an exit.

Looking outside from the storage room door, Tang Zhao realized that he was in a mountain cave, partially covered by hanging vines, with a faint glimpse of light coming through.

The cave wasn't large, with a depth of only five to six meters.

The wolf pack didn't reside inside, but they were likely not too far away.

Climbing directly along the wall to get out was feasible, but Tang Zhao had another idea for now.

Climbing onto the table with curiosity, he used his head to unroll the sheepskin scroll and examined the illustrations on it.
